When God Calls You Into Service

When God Calls You Into Service

For nine years, Candida Rosa Benítez walked the paths of Finca San Lázaro with quiet faithfulness. What may have looked like ordinary work was, in reality, the steady unfolding of something much greater.

When Rosa first arrived, seven members of her family depended on her. She carried the weight of providing each day—showing up with perseverance, sacrifice, and deep love. There were challenges, but she remained determined to build a different future for her family.

Over time, that faithfulness began to bear visible fruit. Through her work, Rosa was able to build a home in Portillo Grande—a place of safety and dignity that once felt out of reach. Each day in the fields became a step toward that reality. Because of her steady income, her daughters and granddaughters were also able to pursue an education, opening doors to opportunities she herself had never known.

But the most profound change happened in her heart.

At Finca San Lázaro, Rosa found more than work—she found a community rooted in faith. Through daily prayer, worship, and time in God’s Word, her relationship with Him deepened. That transformation didn’t stay at the farm; it shaped her home, her family, and the way she walked through life.

In time, her husband received a calling to preach in a church in Comayagua. Together, they recognized God’s invitation into a new season. Leaving the farm was not easy—it was the place where Rosa had grown, found stability, and seen God provide in tangible ways. But in faith, she chose to go.

Today, Rosa’s story is a reminder that transformation often begins in the ordinary. A steady job became a home. Faithful work created opportunity for the next generation. And a life rooted in faith became a family called into ministry.

Rosa leaves her joy among the coffee fields. She leaves her smile that brightened the mornings. She leaves her songs, which still seem to echo with the sway of the wind. But above all, she leaves a legacy: a transformed life that God now sends to serve beyond these boundaries.

Thank you, Rosa, for allowing Finca San Lázaro to be part of your story—and for everything you planted here: work, faith, and an example that will continue to inspire.

And to those who support San Lázaro Coffee, thank you for being part of stories like Rosa’s—stories where dignified work, deep faith, and opportunity come together to change lives.

I recently had the privilege of traveling to Honduras with a group from my church. One morning, we volunteered on the San Lázaro coffee farm. It was only three or four hours—hardly a full day—but those hours changed how I’ll look at my morning coffee forever.
